Are you a beginner in Photoshop? Here I`m sharing my top-20 useful tips on how to work with Photoshop CC written specially for PhotoWorkout platform. Read, use and follow your path to professional editing of your pics ❤
Photoshop is a powerful photo editing software which offers us many of surprises. There is a huge amount of possibilities which you need to explore in order to become a master in this field. Here I am sharing 20 tips I wish I knew before making my first steps as a photographer and photo editor.
1. Getting Started
First of all, open the image you want to work with.
There are several options to do it:
-
use the upper menu of your Photoshop (File-Open)
-
use the hotkey ctrl+O (cmd+O for Mac) or
-
simply drag the file to Photoshop window.
If you need to create new document use File-New or ctrl+N (cmd+N for Mac). You can create a file with transparent background in order to use the image in png format on the websites etc.
Simply follow the path File > New and choose Background Contents > Transparent. Zoom in the file with ctrl+ (cmd+) and zoom out ctrl- (cmd-).
2. Image Resizing
To resize an image in Photoshop go to the image menu in the menu bar along the top of the screen and chose Image Size. You will see the dialogue box like on the picture below.

Thank you so much for this post! I read it on Photoworkout and really liked how you broke down what you can do in Photoshop progressively – from the beginning to getting harder. Quite a lot of the articles I’ve read about beginner Photoshop don’t explain it this clearly and jump all over the place 😀
Using Photoshop (Photoshop Elements on my laptop) is something I always struggled with and I usually don’t know where to start. Thank you for the videos in the post too. I will be sure to check it out.
Sometimes I feel funny cropping images because it reminds me of how I could have take the shot better in real life. Then again, we are not perfect and there is only so much we can control when taking a shot 😀

Photoshop and LR are most popular software used by photographers across the world. I don’t use either 🙂
I find Photoshop quite lengthy and with little time at hand I skip it altogether.

Few years ago i found out how to make my photos need less of Photoshop, that was a great discovery for me, but as a freelancer in photography and editing I need to use a lot of Photoshop)

Well I agree that photographers need to use either of these for their work. Since I don’t have one, I try to shoot in a way which eliminates the option. But yes having one enhances your work! 🙂

Power point is not offering as much creative work as Photoshop do, but of course it depends on the needs of a person

Interesting. Glad I came across your Blog. I do have Photoshop CC and Lightroom 6. Photoshop must be, and is, a very complicated program to use. I’ve been messin’ with it for weeks, and still don’t know it hardly at all. I even have a book on it called Photoshop CC & Lightroom CC. I keep playing with it. This is why I followed. Cheers, Les

I could spend hours on Photoshop CC and still hardly scratch the surface! It must take a long time to know this program. How is it that you became so good with it? What did you do?

Well, first I had an instructor for some private lessons, and second I’ve been practicing for 5 years already =D there are many video tutorials how to do some manipulations in Ph, but not all of them are with seeing.
